{"id":31,"date":"2025-12-16T20:32:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T20:32:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metagen.science\/?page_id=31"},"modified":"2026-01-09T20:07:05","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T20:07:05","slug":"objectives","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/metagen.science\/?page_id=31","title":{"rendered":"Objectives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Motivation and Contribution<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The METAGEN Project fosters an innovative cross-border partnership between Romania and Hungary to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) \u2014 one of the most critical challenges in modern healthcare.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Led by the \u201cVictor Babe\u0219\u201d University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Timi\u0219oara (UMFVBT), in collaboration with the University of Szeged (SZTE) and the ONCOHELP Association, the project aims to ensure equitable access to advanced diagnostics and to strengthen the resilience of health systems in the RO-HU border region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Main Challenges Addressed<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Outdated microbiology diagnostic infrastructure in the region<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limited experience in bacterial genome sequencing and inefficient control of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The growing public health threat posed by antimicrobial resistance<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Innovative Solutions<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To address these challenges, METAGEN introduces a state-of-the-art metagenomic approach using Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) \u2014 a third-generation sequencing method capable of real-time DNA\/RNA analysis and pathogen identification within 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Complementary advanced technologies include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Infrared (IR) Biotyping: Detects HAIs, resistance genes, and virulence factors in under 3 hours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography\u2013Mass Spectrometry): Enables cost-effective measurement of antibiotic levels in patients\u2019 blood.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, these tools empower healthcare institutions to perform faster, more precise diagnostics, guiding timely and targeted treatments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To reinforce local expertise and ensure long-term sustainability, the project will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Train 100 healthcare professionals (microbiologists and clinicians) in cutting-edge diagnostic techniques.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organize joint workshops and knowledge exchanges for 60 microbiologists and 40 clinicians from Romania and Hungary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This collaborative framework strengthens cross-border capacity, ensuring that advancements continue well beyond the project\u2019s duration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Motivation and Contribution The METAGEN Project fosters an innovative cross-border partnership between Romania and Hungary to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) \u2014 one of the most critical challenges in modern healthcare.
